I'm pretty sure this is common knowledge, but cold air is dry. During warm weather, when a cold front comes through, it makes the warm air release all of its' moisture, thus causing it to rain. If cold air is more humid then warm air, why aren't steam rooms cold? The fact is, cold air does dry out skin, that's why chapstick commercials use skiers as their models. You probably don't get a sore throat because bacteria and germs find it harder to live in cold, dry climates. If you kept your house warm, because of the humidity and warmer temperatures, you'd have a greater chance of getting sick.
