Well, WHATEVER point you're trying to make, I supposed it's well taken. However, I don't believe that research, and good-old trial and error should be adandoned in the attmept to make a truly workable double tuba. From all indications, it appears that Tommy Johnson and Rob Stewart have come up something rather successfull with Tommy's Yamaha 822 F. Afterall, the horn community has been living with successful double instrumets for many decades now. Why shouldn't we? Horn players don't have to drag around two different instruments (except for the folks using descants on top), so wouldn't it be nice if we didn't have to either? I'm not ever going to land a big symphony job in Boston or S.F., so I don't really need a great, big BAT. I'd like to have just one instrument that could cover most everything I'd ever do. Is that so unreasonable to hope for?
