The PVC guides in my Eb are 11 years old and still going, and I fabricated a set for Michael Moore's old Conn CC he uses with the Symphony Brass Quintet here. I don't know if they are any more reliable than the nylon, or if they are lasting a long time because they are being handled carefully. I consider them to still be in the testing phase.
