It seems that people who know Ed's playing have confirmed that he plays great...however it's probably b/c he plays great, not b/c his temporary appointment was extended by 1 yr. An orchestra, after having had an audition for a temporary position, is unlikely to hold another audition for the temp. gig.
The Ft. Worth Sym. job pays well, and many great players will show up to audition. Many of the players who were in the semi-finals and finals in Boston will be there, as well as the winners of recent auditions (Alabama, Savannah, Louisville, etc.) With Ft. Worth paying 2 to 3x what many other jobs pay, you better believe they'll have a good turnout of highly qualified players.
