There seems to have been a year long run of valve-sets from VMI/Meinl Weston that had rough keyways. I have a tool about the shape of a file that is smooth, but is the correct thickness to dig out the keyway. If your guides are getting narrower, then that is what is needed to be done. Metal guides are just treating the symptom instead of the cause. Arrange an appointment with me. IF too far away, then arrange for shipping of the tool to a repairman I know and can trust to return to me (again at your expense). If anyone bought a new horn (maybe even a used horn) from Dillon Music, we treat this as a warranty repair. Just yesterday, I did Ron Bishop's MW 2000 he bought 2 years ago. He finally stopped by while he was in town. Keyways were rough.
