You said you'd only been playing for about 1/2 year-- isn't practicing scales important? I mean all the scales, including chromatic. And range is important also. You don't say anything about what your instructor wants you to be working on. I should hope you're getting private instruction, with that much work being done. He/she can best direct your efforts.
