Do you remember me posting semi-anonymously about occasionally practicing with earplugs? Although the sound coming out the bell is somewhat dampened to the ear, the "internal" sounds of the clarity of frequencies of the lip vibrations and articulations become starkly apparent.
I believe that it has at least limited benefits.
