There has been confusion about some models, because of Conn recycling model numbers. I have owned a 52J, which was not a Conn CC, but rather a Pan American Eb tuba made by Conn. Also, a copy of the 1937 Conn catalog shows the 34J and 36J as both being professional model recording basses, both with 4 top-pistons, the 34J having an upright bell and the 36J (Wonderphone model) having the front-bell. I have seen a 34J from another year that had a one-piece upright bell - go figure!

It is unfortunate that Conn recycled its model numbers. My Conn 34J is a 4-top-piston BBb with a detachable upright bell, and in it's year of manufacture, the 36J was the bell-front version. I have seen a 34J that had 4-front-pistons and a one-piece upright bell, neither of which jive with the 34/36J on this list. Also, the 52J was once a Pan American Eb tuba -go figure!
