So, I'm re-doing the home insurance and adding a new instrument (oboe) onto the policy, and was wonderinf if I should also take this time to insure the tuba. I can't get anything out of local music stores in the way of an estimate, and I consider the instrument to be irreplacable. So the question i need to ask myself is whether the instrument is worth enough to make it worth taking it somewhere to get it appraised. I realize on-one can give a "quote over the phone" but if anyone has a suggested range of value, it would help.
So - two questions:
1) What is the approx. worth of a Conn 82J top action three banger with a detatchable gold wash recording bell? It is in full playing condition and (now) clean satin finish with a few small dings. Are we talking $200 or $2000, or somewhere in the middle? My opinion is anything over $1000 I would like to go ahead with an appraisal and add it to the policy.
2) Where can I get this bruiser appraised? Within driving distance of Central NY, Ithaca Area?
Thanks for any help you can offer
