Your statement about a website being nothing but an image may be a little misleading. An image is not a web site. If the URL points to a file on some server somewhere that happens to be an image file (e.g. something ending in .jpg or .gif), then that's what you can put in the "optional image URL" field. If the URL points to a file on some server somewhere that happens to be a web site file (e.g., ending in .htm or .html), then you put that in the "optional link URL" field.
URL means "universal reference locator" that points to a file somewhere on the Internet. If that file is written in hypertext markup language, then it is a web site.
For example, I copied and pasted this into the Optional Image URL:
http://www.jonessoda.com/gifs/whoopss.jpg
And I copied and pasted this into the Optional Link URL:
http://www.jonessoda.com/files/whoopass.html
The former is an image file, and the latter is a web site.
