Some thoughts, on reading the thread below on red rot.

I note some lead pipes are made of red brass. This has a higher copper content, correct?

Is this because red brass is less susceptable to red rot?

If so, why don't manufactureres use red brass for the whole instrument (my trombone has a red brass bell: supposed to make a darker tone)? Is it heavier/more expensive/more prone to dents, or is it a tone thing?

I've seen rot in slides: perhaps a tuba could be manufactured with red brass slides and lead-pipe?

Just a thought...
