The PT-3 has been my horn for the past 5 years now and it's been doing good for me. If you ARE looking for a C tuba that can be used for anything, this would be it. Not only is it compact, but it also has a bright enough tone for solo, quintet, but not too much to be able to be played in orchestra.

With the B&S though, the G is very sharp that you probably would have to use your fourth valve on both regular and high G's. The F# is pretty sharp too. It is brighter than the MW 2145. If you want it darker but not as much as the MW 2145, I would recommend the PT-20, but then again, it's not as compact like the 2145 and the PT-3. Good luck with it and you can email me if you have more questions at winsters(AT)cheerful.com
