Can someone shed some light on the 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, 6/4 size classifications. What determines this? I have a JW York & Sons BBb horn whose main tuning slide diameter mikes at .805 and .845. The overall length is 38-1/2", bell diameter 22-1/2". A Bach mouthpiece that mikes .575 at 1-1/8" from the tip of the shank drops into the leadpipe receiver on this horn. The original mouthpiece mikes .640 at 1-1/8" from the tip of the shank. According to a serial number list that I found on the internet, the horn was manufactured in 1924. Does this horn fit into the 5/4 class? Back to my first question, I guess. What determines the classification? Thanks for the help.
