Yeah, play it 8vb. I've done it twice - both times on F tuba. All I can say is keep your ears wide open and do everything you can to mesh with the ensemble. It is definitely more of a contrabassoon part than a tuba part, but it still works. Think light and focus on good phrasing. Even though there is a conductor, it's still chamber music. Try to match the bassoon as best you can.
