In my opinion the Bach 18 is a good all round mouthpiece: it's not geared towards any particular register (with the resulting facility/tonal decrease in the opposite register), nor is it particularly an aid or hindrance to flexibility. I always recommend it to students. Later on in thier careers they may wish to change to another mouthpiece to remedy problems or work on a particular facet (eg a smaller mouthpiece for higher notes).

I used an 18 for many years on B+H, Besson and Willson EE flats, and have only recently switched to a Schilke 69C4.

Many people I've come into contact with use Bach 18s very successfully on EE flat tubas.
