I bought one and love it. It had a good CC and low range. I can play to a pedal C very comfortably. Naturally the higher octaves are spectacular. It has good intonation and a sweet sound. It is definitely a small horn. I think it similar in size to the Yamaha YFB621. In fact, I had intended to buy the above mentioned Yamaha, but got such a good deal on the 182 that I would be insane to pass it up.
I bought the horn as a solo instrument and am pleased. I use it in a tuba ensemble and in quintet, however, it does not have a big enough sound to use in a large ensemble. It would be appropriate for use anywhere the YFB 621 would be.
In short, I like the 182 because it has a beautiful sweet sound, is easy to play, and sounds different than my CC tuba. The problem with my old F tuba, a Yamaha 822 was that is sounded so similar to my 4/4 CC tuba. It was a great sound, just not different enough from my CC.
Sorry that was so long.....
