Non-sequiter.

What Joe is alluding to is that an instrument's character can be altered, sometimes by means that aren't especially preferred, such as having something heavy dropped on them in shipping to be copied. Any major repair will change the playing and sound characteristics, and the amount of change depends on the skill of the repair technician. Just as when a person recovers from a bad personal experience, the ordeal can either make one a better person, or ruin them completely. It is a testament to the skills of the persons responsible for the repairs done to the Yorks over the years that they still have the enviable sound characteristics that they possess. But I suspect that Joe is correct in saying that the sound characteristics of the Yorks today are somewhat different than when they were manufactured so many years ago. Not necessarily better or worse, but different.
