You obviously felt uneasy by the question Joe asked "...would you mind letting us know from whom your tuba was originally stolen?" And that of course was his point.
Even though you know what he is saying in his question is not true, tt still doesn't feel good to have it asked. Does it? What if he had asked the question "Where did you get your tuba?", would that have bothered you as much?
