Fill balloons with a 50/50 mix of hydrogen and oxygen, and light with a very long stick. Best to do it behind a screen as the flashes are quite large. Also, we did it once and the percussionist lighting them found an old suit, slashed it to ribbons, covered his face/hands with charcoal, messed up his hair and put on some broken glasses. When he stepped out from behind the screen at the end he got the biggest cheer of the night.
