I own a 3171 in silver. I just bought it last summer (before the price went down . . .). I tried lots of euphs before the purchase. I found the Bessons stuffy, the Yams kind of thin in the low range. I also tried several used, including King, Conn, Willson, Miraphone, and others. I sure couldn't hear the extra money in the Willson. I really loved the Miraphone, but it was out of my price range. Then came the VMI. It had the very big, open, dark sound of the Miraphone--maybe even better. Its physical size and shape was just right for me; it's comfortable to play. Great intonation, very free blowing.

I'm very happy with it and think that for the price, you just can't beat it. Nice case, too. Do be sure to get a Shilke 51D for it. The MPC that comes with it isn't so great. E-mail me if you have any more questions.
