A band director friend of mine turned me on to nasal saline solution.
I hardly GET colds anymore (maybe once every two or three years), but when I do, they get into my chest and really "suck".
HE (the band director friend) gets a LOT of colds, because he is around nasty school kids and their nasty horns.
Instructions: When you first feel "that itch", buy some nasal saline solution. Hang your head upside-down off the bed, and pour this stuff ALL THE WAY down both nostils until you feel it trickle around the sinuses in your temples, around to your forehead, down your eustacian tubes, into your eye ducts, and into that cavity above the palate in your mouth. It will sting some, but it will ALSO sort of cauterize all of those inflamed sinus-related tissues, making it difficult for viruses/bacteria, etc. to continue to attack these membranes.
IT JUST WORKED FOR ME (for the first time that I tried it) TWO WEEKS AGO:
-I had the typical mild symptoms warning of an impending cold.
-I did this treatment once or twice a day for about 5 or 6 days.
-I took NO aspirin, decongestants, expectorants, NOTHING.
-I got through it withOUT any bad headaches nor dehabilitating symptoms (not much mucus, either).
