My reaction was just about the opposite of yours. Response was great, intonation seemed okay(then again, I don't have the best ear), but overall, the horn felt and sounded great! Felt like an F tuba in the upper register, felt like a good BBb in the lower register(though, it was kinda small). Maybe it was the mouthpiece? Maybe it was the way I played it? heh, maybe I'm just delusional... seemed like a good little horn to me, at the time, though.
