I remember playing in a summer community band while in high school. We had a lot of fun playing all sorts of music and this is where I learned the value of sight reading. I remember Joe Allessi (sp) came in one week to play a solo with the band. I can't remember the name of the piece or how it went, but I remember that he treated everyone to some of the most phenominal trombone playing ever. At one point in the rehearsal I thought the band couldn't play any faster and Mr. Allessi stopped the band. He turned to the conductor and asked, "Tom, could we take this faster?" My jaw hit the floor when I heard his multiple tounging. I think it was some of the fastest playing I have ever heard. Oh, he also has a wonderful sound too. I think that was when I wanted to become a musician.
