Thanks for the post, Chuck. It's really interesting to see what others listen to. so, in your tradition, I'll list six of my favorites:
1. Shostakovich 7th- Masur/NYPO (live)
2. Berlioz: Symphony Fantastique- Barenboim/CSO (a must have for any Berlioz fan)
3. Mussorgsky/Ravel: Pictures at an Exhibition- Maazel/Cleveland
4. Mahler 2nd- Bernstein/NYPO
5. Bruckner 7th- Barenboim/Berlin
and just for the lighter fare:
6. Mozart: Piano Quartets No. 1 and 2- Sir George Solti on piano w/Melos Quartet
