My only suggestion would be to try some older used tubas, also. I just purchased an older Miraphone 188, similar to the one on E-bay, and it plays great. I use a Tuba Exchange Rose Concert Hall Mouthpiece on it with the standard shank. The mouthpiece is made by Marcinkiewicz, and has their unique "honey-dipper" design on the outside. I previously owned another Miraphone 188 of the same vintage (Serial No. 12XXX) and it was also an extremely versatile horn. I played it in every group, from large orchestra to brass quintet to solo playing.
