I have an easy way to avoid the dropped rotor and the "you pried the stop arm the wrong way" situation. Just unscrew the rotor screw almost all the way, but leave a frew threads still engaged. Unscrew the back cover, place the horn over a padded surface and tap lightly STRAIGHT DOWN on the screw head with a rawhide mallet. The back cover will drop off (onto the padded surface), but the rotor will be retained by the screw head and just hang by it until you unscrew it.

This is only for those rotors that will easily be freed up. If things don't budge after a couple of light taps, time to go back to plan A.
