Which brings to mind a story. When I first talked with Mike about taking a few lessons, he asked me what sort of horn I was playing. At the time, I was playing a Sanders/Cerveny BBb. I told him it was a Sanders, and you could almost see him cringe.

But it was not a bad horn, and well worth the $1500 I paid for it as a nearly new demonstrator. It wasn't durable enough for schools, but it was just fine for someone who needed a worthy horn but didn't have much to spend, who was willing to take care of it. Mike played a few notes on it, which cured me forever of the temptation to blame a horn for my own shortcomings.
