The concept behind this type of mouthpiece is pretty simple. The shape of the lips is not perfectly round, so why should the mouthpiece be perfectly round. By shaping the mouthpiece oval it is supposed to better fit the shape of the mouth. Construction of these mouthpiece, I suppose, is much more difficult. Most mouthpieces can be turned on a metal lathe, whereas this mouthpiece can't.
