The industry 'standard' is .0004" thick silver plating. To me, that is pretty thin, but admittedly this thickness does less to screw up valve casings, threads, etc.

Those old instruments (still in fine mechanical condition) with three to TEN times as much silver on them are fun to work on. I'm sure those old manufacturers had to do a LOT of remachining after applying THAT much silver to those instruments.
