It really isn't all that hard to get into the camp....you'd be surprised at the range of talent that is there. There are some players that are absolutely amazing; then there are others that may have a lot of potential, but really aren't that good... (like me at the time that I went there). I think once you're there you can make what you wish of it... some of the campers are extremely motivated and practice all of the time, but then there are the ones like me who slacked off the whole time socializing and only practiced about a half hour a week (usually they day before "challenges").
I do think though that the experience of being surrounded by so much motivation and talent does have an effect on you, though.... after I got home from that summer is when I bought my own horn and finally started to practice and take tuba seriously.
