I don't want to necessarily start a thread of graphic horror stories here... but by the same token I don't mind if that's what people wish to contribute. But it may be hard for us to learn much from any of it, except the value of a decent well-fitting case.
I don't have a personal story to relate, but I have had two friends who recently reported serious damage (mostly crumpled bells) to a total of three tubas. That's what has prompted my post.
Along with all the other quality-control and safety checks which seem to be increasingly compromised by airline companies for the sake of the almighty $, are luggage handlers getting clumsier?
A student once told me that from her seat on the plane she saw the luggage guys unloading cellos... literally thrown... and caught... or not...
