I know of what you speak!!

For me on my crusty ol' 4/4, BBb, there are a couple wonderful notes that are so juicy and resonant that they are my index of how the other notes "should" sound.

My favorite notes are: F in staff, Eb below the staff, BBb below the staff (of course!), and EEb (played w/ valves 4&5)

another favorite is C in the staff.....but it tends slightly flat on a BBb even if the "resonance" is wonderful.........little vibrato is used as cover-up!

I had the oportunity to get together with a fellow who plays a Besson EEb (comp'-top-valve) and he produced such fabulous beautiful sweet tones. He likes his sound, but freely admitted that it was "like a large euphonium". His response to the sound on my vintage-B&S BBb was......"now that's a Tuba sound!".
