Seems like this shows up on this board from time to time, and I don't quite get why. First -- there are all sorts of reasons pistons get sluggish -- dirt, burred valve guides, use of peanut butter as valve oil, whatever. There's no reason to go ripping material off of your pistons right away. Second -- lapping is a nasty, violent thing to do to your pistons. You can end up with nasty scratches and things on your valves which will eventually cause more harm than good.

I just don't get why people want to make their valves leaky instead of trying to make them just work better. You're probably looking at a ten dollar diagnosis/repair by a good technician now, but it will be a several-hundred-dollar rebuild down the line if you lap these valves yourself.
