I browsed the archives quickly, and although there are some comments in passing about the topic, there didn't seem to be a thread dedicated to it. So here's the question:
I'd be curious to get some informed opinions about the virtues of thin vs thick metal horns. I personally own a large thin metal horn which plays wonderfully and also has a big beautiful sound. It is very efficient and is a pleasure to play.
It seems that in the late 80s and particularly in the 90s, horns were constructed with much thicker, heavier brass. I'm thinking about the Warren Deck generation of horns.
More recently, however, it appears that the pendulum has swung back towards thinner brass. Why is this so? Any comments?
