I too, received my first horn, a BBb Alexander, from my parents. They paid for pretty much all of it and I am still extraordinarily grateful, even though I know that we got a MONSTER deal on that horn. I just purchased my next horn and, even though the loan is in their name, I am paying back every penny of it.

Regardless, I still feel as if I am less fortunate than many other music students I know. One reason is that I play such an expensive instrument that I can barely afford and second is the fact that I am going to school in Southern California where many of the students come from quite affluent backgrounds and have no trouble at all fullfilling their equipment requirements for the music major. I know exactly where Rick is coming from.

Life would be easier if I had a tremendous baritone voice rather than a tremendous brass instrument.
