I've have a Yamaha 621S F tuba and it has been a very nice horn. It is not the best F tuba I have played, but it is very functional. The low range is very open on the Yamaha's which is one the reasons I purchased one. Now, many of the new German style F's that are out have excellent low registers and a better sound(IMO)than the Yamaha's. The Yamaha's are generally still lower in cost. I tried out a PT-15 and the new Miraphone 181 F's back to back. Both were excellent tubas. I personally preferred the Miraphone. It was very even blowing through out the range. Nice open low register and a very, very sweet, warm sound. The PT-15 blew equally as well, but had a larger more robust sound. It depends on what you want out of an F tuba. For me, it is a matter of finding the best combination of sound quality, playability and price. Hope this helps alittle and hope you find what works for you.
