One of my college professors ran into this problem. He was asked to audition on oboe for the National Symphony Orchestra. He went into the audition room, played about 8 notes and was asked to leave. It wasn't that he didn't play masterfully, it was that he didn't play with the style or phrasing that they were looking for. You're right that it is very subjective to how the committee is feeling that day. In saying this, I'm still going to stick to my guns about how stiff the competition is. It's true that at the professional level there are very few mistakes made in auditions; the hard part is knowing what the auditioners want to hear. That's why it's the best to just be yourself and someday you'll eventually be just the musician they are looking for. Peace Out, Morgster
