I must agree. The shoulder tubas does force you to march with better form. They get heavy in carriage position but it looks cool when everybody does a horns up including the tubas. My old high school could not afford seperate sousaphones and concert horns so the convertables were the best compromise. We had legitamate marcing tubas during football season and upright horns for concert band. How can anyone complain about that? I must admit, if I were a band director and money were no object, I would buy sousaphones for marching season and upright tubas for concert band. But since this would most likely not be the case, I would have to go with convertables.
