The YCB-861 has got to be Yamaha's best kept secret. Absolutely good intonation characteristics and a thick rich sound that other musicians find easy to tune to. A perfect large ensemble horn. If I hadn't put together the most perfect for me York, I'd still be playing my YCB-861. Out of a whole store full of tubas to choose from, that says something.
YCB-822 is a fine horn but the articulation doesn't work for ME. The people who do have them love them. Like Tony said, totally different horns.
