I really didn't mean 'concerto" in the perjorative sense. Simply stated, whoevr wrote the tuba part gave us a piece where every note is important. To be honest, I think the work is rather boring and episodic in nature, I would much prefer to play what little Brahms there is and any Shostakovich or Bartok that is out there. Bruckner, for all his faults(perceived)had a wonderful grasp of architecture and used the tuba in a wonderful way in the ENSEMBLE. I prefer to play the tuba in an ensemble setting were I can work on blend, balance, and the integrity of line. I have played Prokofiev 5 and have striven to be a large 16' organ pipe on the bottom. Next time I will chose wording that makes my point a little more salient. Hopefully no one took offense, not my intention.
