For what it's worth, the new Conn 52J is a wonderful new instrument. You cannot compare it to any other Conn - blows bigger than the Getzen - speaking ONLY about the 18" bell Conn - with really good pitch. Toby Hanks taught me something. You really need to talk about TONE size - not BORE size. So, the Conn's TONE size can be compared favorably to any 4/4 or 5/4 instrument out there. The only quirk is that all E's have to be played 1-2, but, they are very in-tune that way.
Two of my students have purchased the 2 satin silver ones that Dillon had in their store and another student is waiting for the 20" bells to arrive. I'm REAL particular with tubas - eccentric, some would say - and these Conns are amazing instruments.
