I think you have a great start but it can be improved. What if you used your scheme as the genus and then replaced all of the 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, 6/4 confusion with a species. For example "BBBb Subcontratubus Horribulus" might be a 7/4 horn while "BBBb Subcontratubus Petitus" would be its 3/4 cousin. There are all sorts of possibilities to describe valve configurations etc. However "BBBb Subcontratubus Rotarius Fivevalvus Horribulus" might be too much.
