I own a R-Meinl BB Flat 5/4 tuba which was built according to R. Meinl Jr. some time in the 1950's. When I visited some time age we removed the lead pipe and determined the bore to be .925. He stated that presently, their BB Flat 5/4 tuba's bore is .920. I think this is the largest bore tuba in production at present. If you are interested in replacing the valve section on your St. Petersburg tuba, look for a Cervany BB Flat "TANK". That bore will so close to what you have you won't notice a difference. Whether this valve section will be in better shape is hard to determine. I've worked on alot of St Petersburg Tubas lately and I find all of the valve problems fixable. Feel free to write if I can share any more insight into your situation. MOTUBA (AT) AOL. com.
