What an interesting thread! Before reading the messages here, I was going to say check the mouthpiece you're using. This horn doesn't have the largest of bores and most people that I know love using BIG mps from the big horns on their little horns. I use a PT80s, it fits the lead pipe very well, as opposed to my PT20, which even sticks out too far on my 994 BBb. As for Boosey quality control, there's a lot to be desired from them. My 983 is falling apart at a couple of places. Yet my 994 hasn't given me one iota of trouble.

After reading Pat Sheridans comments, i'm more the wiser with regard to tuba and mouthpiece issues. Just in general, if you like the PT mps, use the "s" models, as they have the smaller shank for tubas just like the 983. bigger is not best, as real life examples here have proven.

Now I just wish I had the oportunity to try the Dillon mouth piece! *sigh*
