There is no other school in the country that can offer the professional training for tuba that USC can. Mr. Self is an amazing player as well as an incredible teacher. You also may have the opportunity to study with one of the greatest tuba player/teachers of all time, one of Mr Self's teachers, Mr Tommy Johnson. What other school has tuba alumni in the Chicago Symphony, L.A. Philharmonic, and countless other professional bands and orchestras? Who plays on most of the blockbusting movie soundtracks? That's correct, Mr Johnson and Mr Self, who are also USC grads by the way. There are other great music schools out there but USC has the total package, great teachers, great players , opportunity to learn and gain diverse musical experience, good weather so you can practice outside to get that big sound, and countless other things that can give you that little edge to set you apart from the 300 other great tuba players that are auditioning for any given job. The school isn't cheep!!! If you want the best your going to pay for it. Just because you go there doesn't mean you will get a full time gig. Students of other schools do win jobs too. You need to think hard about your goals in life and how much you are willing to sacrifice to achieve them.
Best of luck,
Jeremy
