Go ahead and work with someone now. If they are indeed a good teacher, he/she will be a big help in the switch.
When I switched, I played many, many easy etudes and solos from earlier lessons. Lots of sight reading sessions will help. Don't spend too long mastering the pieces your're working on, just reads tons of music. Play every page of bass clef you can get your hands on.
