Kris -

For brass ensemble works that feature tuba check out the following:

"Homage to the Noble Grape" by Goff Richards. Movement entitled "HOCK"
(a burgundy table wine) is all tuba and is great. It is recorded on
London Brass CD "Clowning Around". It is available through Musicians
Publications, PO Box 7160, W. Trenton, NJ 08628 (414.01, basic tentet)

On that same CD is "Bandinerie" for J S Bach. This is available through
the Brasswind (an English music publisher, not the place in Indiana).
Their e-mail is: brasswnd(AT)globalnet.co.uk (also 414.01)

A great closer and a great workout would be Jeremy Van Hoy's arrangement
for brass & percussion (423.12 & 3 percussion)of Scenes from 'Star Wars'
which inlcudes note-for-note "Jabba the Hut" (impress your friends and
hey, even yourself). Jeremy's e-mail is: 8vb(AT)compuserve.com

"A Londoner in New York" by Jim Parker (recorded on Philip Jones Brass
Ensemble CD "Lollipops") has some tuba solo in it but is more of an
ensemble piece. A great closer though. 5 movements, lots of character
and tons of fun for the players and the audience. Available through
Robert King in two seperate scores. One contains the first three movements
and the other the last two. The one with the three movements has the
most tuba solo in it if you're on a budget.
(Also 414.01 with optional perc).

The last suggestion is Danielson's "Capriccio" for tuba with brass
sextet. I have never played this in concert but have worked on the
solo part. It has been recorded a few times. Sounds a tad bit hocky
but is a nice work. Harder than it looks. Also available through
Robert King.

If anything, these are the basis for putting together a good brass
ensemble. Check out the recordings and see if any of them strike you.

Good luck,

Mike
