Yamaha demonstrated the Silent Brass for Tuba at the NAMM (National Association of
Music Merchants) Trade Show in Los Angeles at the end of January. The entire Rhythm & Brass group, including Charlie Villaruba (sp.?) on tuba, played their horns equipped with Silent Brass. The resulting sound was piped to a headphone bay where many visitors could hear the musicians (with digital drums and keyboard) at once. I asked Charlie to play a few notes without the band; the Silent Brass for Tuba seemed to be doing a much better job of picking up the sound from the tuba than it did in its December appearance at Midwest.
