i used to do the same thing. the only thing to do is change it!!!
i started out playing tuba in the high school marching band and it was great for that, but when i got in to the more challenging playing i found that i couldn't play a gentle attack to save my life. it's really something you need to change if you want to be successful.
what i did was i simply started out with a good attack behind my teeth every time i sat down with my horn. be hard on yourself and don't let your tongue do what it wants to. it's like re-learning how to play, but the more you do it the easier it gets. some good exercises are things like the arban's double tongue exercises at tempo marking : eighth note = ~ 100. make sure you do it slow and correctly every time. this is the only way to learn it correctly. DON'T BE IN A HURRY!! these things take time.
feel free to e-mail me if you want.
good luck!!!
