Head on over to the music department and see if you can check out a tuba for the time being.If you can't do that then look into renting for a short time. Once your chops return maybe then you can think about trying horns. If you want to have an instrument right away, I would suggest going on the cheaper side; possibly a used horn. If by the time you've finished med school you find your musical progress being hampered by your equipment, then go out and buy a better tuba. Once those doctor dollars start rolling in, a tuba will be much less of a financial burden.
